Cameron Mills was at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center on Saturday morning's accident.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue rushed the 12-year-old boy there after the driver of a semi-trailer truck struck him when he was crossing the street near the intersection of Northwest 32nd Avenue and Northwest 62nd Street in Miami's Brownsville neighborhood.

Cameron went to a Caraf Oil gas station at 6151 NW 32nd Ave. After buying snacks there, he was on his way to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park at 6000 NW 32nd Ct.

"He just remembers waking up on the ground," Cameron's uncle, Lomar Lee, said.

The Miami-Dade Police Department was investigating the incident. Police had a picture showing that the semi-truck appeared to have been trying to pass another truck when Cameron decided to avoid using the pedestrian crossway at the corner.

Lee said the driver of the truck was supposed to be behind a white truck, but was trying to avoid traffic, so he moved over to get into a turning lane, where Cameron was standing. Lee said it's a miracle that Cameron survived.

Attorney Jason Weisser of Shuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to this unfortunate accident:   “It is a miracle Cameron is still alive. Hopefully he will make a full recovery and the police will find the responsible party for causing this tragic accident”.
