St. Lucie County Sheriff's office is looking into a fire, believed to be delibertly set, on Hutchinson Island.

St. Lucie County Fire District crews put out a vehicle fire on Hutchinson Island near Florida Power & Light Co.’s St. Lucie Nuclear Plant, a Fire District spokeswoman said.

Fire Rescue crews were called to the scene of the fire at the 5500 block of South Ocean Drive, said Brenda Stokes, Fire District spokeswoman. That address is about 2 miles north of the nuclear power plant.

A sheriff's official said they are investigating the fire, at Blink Creek Beach access, as an arson.   Stokes said the vehicle was fully involved in flames when crews arrived.  There was no one in the vehicle at the time of the fire.  Firefighters worked on putting out this fire for over an hour before it was safe to open South Ocean Drive back up to vehicle traffic.

At this time the owner of the vehicle has not been released.  The St. Lucie Sheriff's office is asking if you have any information about this fire to contact them immediately.

Attorney Jason Weisser of Shuler, Halvorson, Weisser, Zoeller and Overbeck responded to this fire:   “Although it is always a mystery and sad when someone purposely destroys property but at least it appears that know one was injured in the car fire on South Ocean Drive”.
